T-TMS on Nuclear War: Reality or Fantasy

The first time nuclear weapons were used they ended World War II but with the cost of devastating Japan for decades to come. Though we may have saved 100 of thousands or even millions of soldiers' lives it has caused Japan's population to have an increase risk of cancer as well as numerous other health problems that are only amplified by the nuclear radiation that still exist and has spread throughout Japan. Not to mention the immediate affect of the bombs and all those who died from radiation poisoning.

Thought this event is awful and has created a new type of warfare it is unlikely, as I see it, that it will happen again. The cost of using such weapons is becoming more and more evident as research reveals the true extent of damage that radiation can cause and the amount of time it takes to dissipate to a manageable level. The nuclear weapons we have today are 10 times more powerful than the ones we dropped on Japan. The United States alone have enough nuclear warheads to blow up the world 16 times. So why do we have them if the cost is so great that no sane government would use them? The answer is simple, we have them to threaten to use them.

The mere fact that we have nuclear weapons makes other countries hesitant to get into a conflict with us or any other nuclear armed country. We have them so we can bluff about using them. Our country invests millions into our nuclear arms programs just to be able to say we can nuke you if we wanted to. This works pretty well until someone calls our bluff.

Since there is no imminent danger of a nuclear war our country is most concerned about preventing some terrorist or other radical group or person from getting their hands on nuclear weapons. That is the reason that there is so much concern about Iran, Pakistan and North Korea. All those countries have or are developing nuclear weapons and their governments have little stability that will guaranty that no radical can get their hands on those weapons. Our country is still in North Korea only with a cease fire, not a peace treaty, with China and the Middle East is one of our country's biggest overseas military commitment. So at the moment global warming is more likely to kill us all than a nuclear war and the United States of America is working to make sure that the threat of a nuclear war is as small as possible.
