Sleek and silent is this thing,
For none can see it but still it rings,
In the ears of the lucky and brave,
And all the risk takers know its name.
It’s the creature that hides in the night,
Ready to leap if someone caches sight,
Of it glimmering coat of fur,
And still it slinks away from predators till day.
It is good and bad,
Though many fear that,
It can bring you misfortune or bring you fortunes,
If you just give it a chance.
Death at your peak,
Jobless out there in the hail and snow,
Homelessness, friendless, saddened and depressed,
The man who’s luck runs out.
A roll of the dice,
A flip of a coin,
An offhanded winner,
A victory against impossible odds.
But do you have to roll the dice?
Should the coin be flipped?
Is chance really that rewarding?
Is 50% really that good?
We live in a world of chance.
It can make us rich and famous.
It tells us we can do better or worst.
So take a chance at chance.
